The Lower River Bann is Northern Ireland’s largest river and runs for 60km from Lough Neagh to the sea between Castlerock and Portstewart. The river was subject to extensive drainage and canalisation works last century, however despite the influence of the hand of man it still offers outstanding coarse and game fishing throughout its length. The best game fishing occurs in the tributary rivers or on those highly oxygenated parts of the main river where vestiges of the former natural riverbed remain. The more tolerant coarse fish thrive throughout the waterway and many of the better areas have been pegged to facilitate match fishing and offer excellent bags for the keen angler.

For detailled information on the best beats on the river and contacts for angling guides with this knowledge please download the River Bann Angling Guide.
